Brixton Academy

Built in 1929, it opened as one of four Astoria cinemas. In 1972, Astoria closed, and the building was used as a warehouse by the Rank organization.

It reopened as a music venue in 1983 under the name Brixton Academy. It retained this name until mid-2004, when it was renamed Carling Academy. In January 2009, it was renamed O2 Academy by its major sponsor, British telephone company O2. Today, it is managed by the Academy Music Group and hosts concerts and club nights.
